A Message from Melvin R. Laird

Dear Friends,

Marshfield Clinic, through its Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, has for decades done outstanding research and built a national reputation for excellence. This Research Foundation, sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, is one of the finest research centers in the world.

I am pleased and proud to see the culmination of so many people’s efforts at Marshfield Clinic and through the Research Foundation, to further link patient care and research more closely than ever before in a world class medical research and education facility.

When first elected to Congress, I was encouraged by Dr. Stephen Epstein, an outstanding Marshfield Clinic dermatologist, to become involved with medical research. Since my first term in Congress, my No. 1 priority has been to get medical research results to people.

The Laird Center for Medical Research will allow Marshfield Clinic researchers, scientists and physicians the opportunity to work together under one roof – with expanded capability to move research results more quickly from the laboratory into medical practice. Here, they will work in an environment that cultivates discoveries that will bring a safer and healthier tomorrow for all of us. The tradition continues of helping thousands of people in Wisconsin, the nation and the world through Marshfield Clinic’s medical and research programs.

Today we celebrate the future of medicine. Great discoveries are just ahead, and we have created the ideal setting at Marshfield Clinic in which to succeed.
